Kuldhara Village Haunted Story and History

Haunted Town

Kuldhara in Rajasthan is a deserted village located near Jaisalmer city, India. This abandoned village has a cursed history. Its eerie silence and mysterious history have earned it the nickname “Ghost Village.” But it’s not just a spooky legend that haunts the deserted streets of Kuldhara.

Kuldhara Rajasthan

The story of Kuldhara dates back 300 years ago when it was a prosperous village of Paliwal Brahmins in Jaisalmer. According to the locals, It was the largest village among 84 Khede (1 Kheda = 12 Villages) ruled by the king of Jaisalmer. To manage all his villages, the king appointed Salim Singh, as the prime minister (Diwan of Jaisalmer) because of his efficiency. However, Salim Singh’s true nature soon came to light.

Forgive me if I am wrong but according to the local guide, Salim Singh began to impose high taxes on the villagers without the king’s permission in Kuldhara. Those who didn’t comply with his demands were punished cruelly, and some were even killed. He was also known to be a perverted individual who would kidnap females to satisfy his lust. Every hour, he needed a different woman. One day, Salim Singh was going somewhere from his Haveli (Mansion).

Spooky place

He saw the daughter of Kuldhara’s village head. Then, he set his sights on her. He demanded that she marry him, but the head of the village refused. So, he became very angry and threatened to attack the village. The entire village was scared, but the head of the village requested some time to discuss the matter with the other villagers. Salim Singh gave some time to the village head because he believed that he was powerful and could still force them to agree even if they disagree with his marriage proposal.

The curse of Kuldhara Village

Kuldhara Village haunted story

After holding a council, the Paliwals, who were the residents of Kuldhara, decided to vanish rather than submit to Salim Singh’s demands. They decided to abandon the village mainly because of three reasons. The first and main reason was the cruelty of Salim Singh. Second due to illegally increased taxes by him and third, due to water scarcity. Before they left, they cursed Kuldhara, making it uninhabitable forever. Those who were unable to run away from the village, particularly the old people, ended up killing themselves.

Kuldhara Story

Ever since that fateful day, strange paranormal phenomena have driven away anyone who dared to stay in Kuldhara at night. Some have reported hearing strange sounds, while others have claimed to see apparitions wandering through the deserted streets. The abandoned houses are now decaying, with vegetation taking over the once-bustling streets. The village seems to freeze in time. Even now, many people have claimed to have heard footsteps while wandering around there.

Some people reported hearing crying and howling sounds. Many people felt that someone was following them around the castle, but when they turned around, no one was there. Many argue to hear the voices of women murmuring and crying. Some allege hearing someone calling them in their native language. Even in hot temperatures, the location feels chilly due to its architectural design. That’s why it is considered the most haunted village in India. Is Kuldhara still cursed, or are people just experiencing mass confusion?
